Absence of NMDA receptor antibodies in patients with ovarian teratoma without encephalitis

چکیده
Ovarian teratoma (OT) has been identified in 18%– 50% of patients with anti–N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis, and an immunopathologic relationship between these conditions has been proposed. It is currently unclear whether a subset of patients with OT harbor NMDAR antibodies before developing anti–NMDAR encephalitis. Therefore, the usefulness of systematic NMDAR antibody screening to identify patients with OT who may develop encephalitic symptoms and/or benefit from additional therapy should be investigated. We thus conducted this study to determine the frequency and usefulness of serum NMDAR antibody detection in patients with OT compared with other benign ovarian cysts, to ascertain whether antibody testing should be routinely conducted in this patient group.

Anti N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDR) encephalitis has been recognized as the most frequent autoimmune encephalitis in children after acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis (ADEM).However due to the variable the variable clinical presentation, the paucity of specific finding on standard laboratory and radiological investigation remains under recognized. First discribed in 2005, most commonly...

Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, reported by Dalmau et al., is a paraneoplastic encephalitis frequently associated with ovarian teratoma. After the manifestation of schizophrenia-like psychotic symptoms in the initial stage, serious neurological symptoms such as convulsions and central hypoventilation develop. We report two cases of 17-year-old girls with anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis who exh...

Encephalitis with anti-NMDA receptor antibodies is a recently-recognised form of paraneoplastic encephalitis characterized by a prodromal phase of unspecific illness with fever resembling viral disease, followed by memory loss, psychiatric features, seizures, disturbed consciousness, prominent abnormal movements and autonomic imbalance. Association with ovarian teratoma is common. Neurological ...

Anti–NMDA receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is an autoimmune-mediated disease with a wide range of neurologic and psychiatric symptoms including psychosis, cognitive deficits, movement disorders, and epileptic seizures. Up to 50% of patients have tumors, mainly ovarian teratomas. We describe a 15-year-old girl with a relapsing course of severe and prolonged NMDAR encephalitis in whom an infrathyreo...

BACKGROUND A severe form of encephalitis associated with antibodies against NR1-NR2 heteromers of the NMDA receptor was recently identified. We aimed to analyse the clinical and immunological features of patients with the disorder and examine the effects of antibodies against NMDA receptors in neuronal cultures. METHODS We describe the clinical characteristics of 100 patients with encephaliti...
